B.Sc Natalia Rodríguez Hernández

Natalia Rodríguez Hernández is a biologist, which graduated at the School of Biology of the University of Costa Rica in 2012. Currently, she is doing a Master of Microbiology, Parasitology and Clinical Chemistry in the same institution. Her main scientific interest is environmental microbiology focusing on the symbiotic relationships between host and microorganism, using molecular biology, bioinformatics analysis and microscopy techniques.

Her master's thesis is based on the study of the gut microbiota of army ants of the genus Eciton, one of the main group of predators of the Neotropics. For the development of her thesis, she is using techniques MiSeq sequencing, bioinformatics tools, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and confocal microscopy applying the technique FISH (Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization).
