Juan G. Abarca Alvarado 

 

Juan G. Abarca Alvarado was born in 1982 in Puntarenas, Costa Rica and made professional studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the National University, graduating with a Bachelor in Biology with emphasis on Tropical Biology in 2013. Currently he studies a master degree in Microbiology at the University of Costa Rica. Mr. Abarca studies the symbiotic interactions between microorganisms associated with amphibians. He has participated in research and conservation projects of endangered amphibians, introduced species and communities of amphibians and reptiles in Costa Rica. Mr Abarca currently working in the isolation and characterization of bacteria associated with amphibian skin and Costa Rican strains of the amphibian’s pathogenic fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis.
